The FSA have been clear in their guidance notes in the use of platforms and meeting the independence rule – “We think that it is likely to be very rare, if possible at all, that a firm could use one platform for all clients and meet the independence rule”.
In response to these guidance notes, Emma Napier, Head of Adviser Relations at The Platforum said “we believe that this does not mean to keep the FSA happy every Adviser firm needs more than one platform for the sake of it, but if you offer a range of services it is likely one platform will not be the suitable for 100% of those clients 100% of the time. Good due diligence means first determine what you need the platform for before aligning the most suitable and not the other way around – 4 steps: THINK ABOUT IT, MAKE SURE ITS ROBUST, WRITE IT DOWN AND CHECK IT WORKS.
