Prudential: Focus on bonds webex event

There is still time to register for the ‘Focus on bonds webex event’ that Prudential are running on 11 May 2017, to help you identify planning opportunities with your clients. There are four different sessions running throughout the day.

9am – Bonds taxation – who’s taxed, when and how – a whirlwind tour

Graeme Robb, Senior Technical Manager, explores how insurance bonds do not produce income and therefore have their own special chargeable tax regime. This requires us to identify a chargeable event, calculate the gain arising, and attribute the gain to the right person.

11am – Corporate investing – 10 things you need to know

In recent times, the ICAEW stated that 'businesses are retaining increased cash buffer'. With interest rates at historically low levels, directors increasingly need to find a home for the surplus cash. As insurance bonds can be an attractive choice and in this session Graeme Robb, highlights 10 points you should be aware of.

1pm – To wrap or not to wrap, that is the question

Les Cameron, Head of Technical, takes a look at the taxation of Authorised Investment Funds when held directly by individuals, trustees and corporates. He'll go on to look at where it could be beneficial to wrap those investments within a life assurance product - such as pensions, ISA and onshore or offshore bond.

3pm – Optimising returns in a lower for longer environment

This final session is presented by Andy Fear, Business Development Manager (Investments). Whilst recent short term market returns have been exceptional, the long term assumptions show that we need to manage clients expectations to expect lower, long term returns. This certainly does not mean no growth, but does present a recurring financial planning opportunity to ensure we maximise returns through appropriate use of tax wrappers and tax allowances.
