RHG: Save our Melons

The recent receipt of a 320% increase in the FSCS levy almost led to a chain of events that would see me behind bars for the foreseeable future. Fortunately, my partner was on hand to endure an evening of my ranting in a local hostelry and by morning common sense had prevailed. However, my determination to do something to protest about this was not diminished.

My first thought was to write to my local MP, the FCA and FSCS but then I realised I had zero power and this would be a waste of my time. It would need representations from many thousands of advisers for anyone to sit up and take notice. I therefore decided to set up an on line petition calling for a complete overhaul of financial services regulation. It can be found at https://goo.gl/chDA8d

As I write this I see the site has 186 signatories yet 475 hits. If you were one of the 289 who viewed but did not sign, why not? It is time to stand up and be counted. The FCA is akin to a bully, knowing it can get away with a huge hike in fees because we are too scared to fight back.

One of my favourite films is Mr Majestyk, a 1974 Charles Bronson classic about an intimidated melon farmer. Have a look; it might inspire you to support this far more democratic approach.

I've signed it and asked my staff to sign it too.

Mr Beasley, ask each of your staff to sign it and you may be much closer to the 500. :-)
